Classes and Teachers

Our Classes

At Hollin Hall, children are placed in classes with others close to their age. They interact with each other by playing with toys, reading books, working on arts and crafts, and playing on our large, outdoor playground. They learn social skills that will help them throughout their lives by following the modeling shown by their teachers, reading stories and participating in interactive activities.

The children work on many different units in their classrooms. They learn their letters, numbers, shapes, and colors by doing crafts, practicing writing, reading stories, and singing songs. They also do projects for world-wide holidays, study the environment by taking walks, do experiments and explore real objects, learn about their five senses, dinosaurs, and more. To get exercise and release energy each day, weather permitting, the children go outside and enjoy our large, multi-faceted "backyard" and playground.

Extracurricular classes are also offered for an additional fee. They are taught by professionals from Joy of Dance, Power Tots Gymnastics, and Excite Soccer.

Our Teachers

A school is only as good as its teachers and we are proud of ours. Our school is staffed with well-qualified, experienced, caring people who enjoy working with children. Our teachers come from a wide wange of backgrounds. Some are college graduates, while others are currently enrolled in college curriculum. Local high school juniors and seniors are also employed in after-school positions. They are guided by senior staff and gain valuable experience and skills. Many of them continue working at the Center during college as well. Before hiring, the background and references of each applicant are carefully checked. Every employee of the school must have a criminal record check and be fingerprinted by the State of Virginia. As a program that is licensed by the State of Virginia, required trainings are completed on an annual basis and all staff participate in First Aid/CPR training and safety and HAZMAT drills to ensure the safety of children in our care.
